What 100% Permanent and Total Actually Means
A 100% P&T rating means the VA has decided two separate things: your combined service-connected disability rating is 100% (total), and your conditions are not expected to improve (permanent). That second word matters. Permanence protects you from routine future exams under 38 CFR 3.327 and unlocks dependent benefits, like CHAMPVA healthcare and Chapter 35 education, that a plain 100% schedular rating does not.
You can confirm P&T status on your VA Benefit Summary Letter (available at VA.gov). Look for the line stating you are considered totally and permanently disabled due solely to service-connected disabilities.
