Corrections and Updates
What changed since the books went to print.
September 2026
Updated manuscripts and staged toolkits: VA dollar figures removed. Compensation rates change every December, and a figure printed in a book is wrong the moment it changes. Rate figures have been pulled out of the manuscripts and out of the toolkit spreadsheets. The calculators still calculate. You look up your own rate at va.gov and type it in. Affected in this pass: the SMC rate table and TDIU sheets in The VA 100% Disability Maximizer toolkit, the combined-rating and TDIU worksheets in A VA Disability Claims Manual for the Rest of Us toolkit, and rate sentences in The VA 100% Disability Maximizer, The VA PTSD Claims Playbook, and The Appeals Playbook.
Fee rule citation corrected. Some earlier material cited 38 U.S.C. 5905 for the rule on charging fees. The fee clause of that section was repealed in 2006. The authority is 38 U.S.C. 5904(c)(1) and 38 CFR 14.636.
Former prisoner-of-war date restriction removed. The 2010 amendment removed the phrase “who died after September 30, 1999” from 38 U.S.C. 1318(b)(3). It did not repeal the former prisoner-of-war eligibility provision.
