What are the TDIU rating requirements?

Schedular TDIU under 38 CFR 4.16(a) requires either a single service-connected condition rated at 60% or higher, or a combined rating of 70% or higher with at least one condition at 40% or higher. Extraschedular TDIU under 4.16(b) has no minimum rating but requires VA Central Office referral.

Can I work and still get TDIU?

You cannot be engaged in substantially gainful employment, which means earning above the federal poverty threshold ($15,960/year in 2026). Part-time or marginal employment (odd jobs, sheltered work) does not automatically disqualify you.

What if I was denied TDIU before?
